Strengthening European Citizenship through Institutional Cooperation and Territorial Engagement

As part of the outreach and institutional engagement activities promoted within the Jean Monnet Chair CE4INT – Circular Economy for Sustainable Development and International Trade, Professor Massimiliano Montini participated in a strategic dialogue aimed at strengthening European citizenship and enhancing cooperation between universities and regional institutions in Tuscany.

The meeting involved Angelita Campriani, Irene Galletti, Luca Rossi Romanelli and David Barontini, fostering a constructive exchange on how to bring the European Union closer to citizens through education, institutional collaboration, and local initiatives.

The discussion highlighted the importance of strengthening citizens’ understanding of European values, policies, and opportunities, with particular attention to the role of universities, schools, and regional authorities in promoting active European citizenship and sustainability awareness at the territorial level.

Drawing on his role at Università di Siena as Delegate of the Rector for European Citizenship and Scientific Coordinator of Europe Direct Siena, Professor Montini emphasised the need to transform knowledge of the European Union into concrete civic experiences through collaborative networks and participatory initiatives.

The dialogue represents an important step toward the development of future joint projects between Europe Direct Siena and the Regional Council of Tuscany, aimed at fostering European citizenship, sustainability culture, and institutional cooperation in line with the broader objectives of the Jean Monnet Chair CE4INT.
