Costanza Di Francesco Maesais Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Siena, Santa Chiara Lab – Centre for Interdisciplinary Innovation activities, within the research project: “AGRITECH: Measurement of the environmental and social sustainability performance of companies in the agri-food supply chains” since December 2023. She has been Adjunct Professor for the course “Law and Biotechnology” (IUS14 – European Law) at the University of Siena, and invited lecturer of EU Law in several courses, both in Italian and European Universities.
She obtained a Double Doctoral Diploma in EU Law at the University of Bologna and at the University of Strasbourg and she has been Visiting Research Fellow in EU Law at several renowned European Universities and Institutes, such as the EUI, the Max-Planck-Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law and the Queen Mary University of London. She has also been member of different European and International research projects and member of several scientific networks, including the United Nations Knowledge Network “Harmony with Nature”.
Her main research interests are: EU Law, International and EU Environmental Law, focusing especially on the transition from Environmental to Ecological Law, Sustainable Development Law and Climate Change Law, European Data Protection law, focusing in particular on the regulation of Artificial Intelligence in the EU and on the protection of children online, Legitimacy of EU Law in the Area of Freedom Security and Justice, and more in general, legitimacy and accountability of EU Law and EU actors, Protection of fundamental rights in the EU, with a special focus on the regulation of fundamental rights of non-human subjects in EU Law, Interaction between AI and environmental protection in EU law.
