Series of Seminars on “Circular Economy for the Internal Market” (in Italian and English).
Series of Seminars on “Circular Economy for the Internal Market” for undergraduate and postgraduate students coming from all disciplines of the University of Siena will be held both in-person and online. The seminars will explore the key legal and political issues underpinning the European transition from a linear economy to a circular economy that is mandated by the European Green Deal and the European circular economy action plan. The seminars will explore the “sustainable product policy legislative initiative” of the European Commission, launched in order to make products fit for a climate-neutral, resource-efficient and circular economy. More in particular, the Proposal for a Regulation establishing a framework for setting eco-design requirements for sustainable products and repealing Directive 2009/125/EC [Proposal COM (2022) 142] will be analyzed. The main objectives of the proposed Regulation are to reduce the negative life cycle environmental impacts of products and improve the functioning of the internal market. It also contributes to the objectives of EU industrial policy to boost the supply of and demand for sustainable goods, deliver on sustainable production, and ensure a level playing field for products sold on the internal market. The proposed Regulation aims to establish a framework to improve the environmental sustainability of products and to ensure free movement in the internal market by setting eco-design requirements that products shall fulfill to be placed on the market or put into service. The ecodesign requirements, which shall be further elaborated by the Commission in delegated acts, relate to the following product aspects: durability and reliability, reusability, upgradability, reparability, and possibility of maintenance and refurbishment, presence of substances of concern, energy and resource efficiency, recycled content.
